What are the Alternatives to Breast Reduction Surgery?

Cosmetic Surgery Enquiry

Breast reduction surgery is a complex surgery that carries several risks. Because of these risks, you may be unable or unwilling to undergo breast reduction surgery to reduce the size of your breasts. If this is the case, there are some other options that could help to relieve your symptoms.

Liposuction

Whilst it is still a cosmetic procedure, liposuction is much less invasive than breast reduction surgery and can be effective in removing excess fat from the breasts. The amount of fat that you can remove using liposuction is limited however, it should be sufficient to remove moderate amounts to make your breasts smaller.

Whilst liposuction is often used as an alternative to breast reduction surgery because it has a much faster recovery time, it does not give the same results. Liposuction is a process whereby the fat cells in the breasts are broken down and then removed from the body using suction. However, breast reduction surgery also removes excess tissue, which is a more permanent solution. The other problem with liposuction for breast reduction is that it does not tackle the excess skin. This means that you could be left with sagging breasts and skin, which can be less attractive than larger breasts.

Weight Loss and Exercise

It is possible to reduce the size of your breasts by losing weight. This can be a difficult and long- winded process, however if you cannot afford cosmetic surgery it may be the only option available to you. You should speak to your GP about how you can target weight loss at your breasts. They may be able to recommend an exercise plan that can help you to target the fat cells as well as improving your overall health.

Most people are able to lose weight by following a healthy, balanced diet but without compromising on the foods that they enjoy. You can do this by limiting foods that are high in calories, salt, sugar, and saturated fats whilst trying to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. However, it is not possible to force the weight to be lost from a certain area of your body, such as your breasts.

You should combine this diet with physical activity. Doing at least half an hour of physical activity a minimum of five times a week can greatly aid the weight loss process and can improve your overall health. By doing this, you could limit the effects of your breasts on your health. However, if your breasts prevent you from doing physical activity you should speak to your doctor about surgical options as they are having a physical effect on your health.

Breast Reduction Pills

Some companies market breast reduction pills, which are said to reduce the fatty cells in the breasts thus making them smaller. They claim that they are a safe way of reducing your breast size without the need for surgery. You should be weary of these companies as the majority of such medications have not been medically tested and therefore there is no proof that they work.

If you are considering breast reduction pills it is worth discussing them with your GP first as they will be able to give you a better idea as to whether or not they will be effective. You should also be aware that they are targeting the fat cells in your breasts whereas breast reduction surgery also removes the tissue.
