What Should I look for in am Abdominoplasty Surgeon?

Cosmetic Surgery Enquiry

When considering which surgeon you should go for when having an Abdominoplasty, the best place for you to start looking is with your doctor; they should be able to give you the name of a few good surgeons, and if not, then tell you where to look to find a surgeon who is suitable for you. This last part is almost as important as finding a surgeon who is qualified. You need to find the right surgeon for you. Though there is no set list in what you should be looking for when looking for the right surgeon for you (other than their qualifications) there are a few general tips that you need to bear in mind; you should feel comfortable talking to him about everything about the operation, this includes what you want done, why you want it, what part of that part of your body you do not like and why (this will help him to give you the best consultation that he can give you). You also need to make sure that they have the same idea of what needs to be done as you, though it is important that you listen to their advice as they will normally have a lot of experience and therefore be able to give you the best results which may differ slightly from the ideas you have.

There are a number of qualifications you should be looking for when choosing which surgeon will be the best for you. It is important that you remember though that the qualifications themselves are only half of what you should be looking for; you also need to check out their history and how much experience they have had with your specific type of surgery, many surgeons will have had a number of years of experience. You should also never choose a surgeon based on their price, a cheaper surgeon is unlikely to give you the same standard of care that a slightly more expensive surgeon will give you. The first thing you should look for when choosing your surgeon is whether they are a member of the General Medical Council; you can find this out by going to their website. You should also look for certain letters after their name. FRCS means that they are a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (specialising in plastic surgery), and therefore are more than qualified to handle your Abdominoplasty. Before choosing your surgeon, you should also feel comfortable asking them questions; they should not mind you asking these (if they do then it is a safe bet that you are probably better off looking somewhere else). A good question to ask is how many years' experience they have, and how often they perform your operation, or one similar to it. This is important because the more often they perform an Abdominoplasty, the better qualified they are to handle your operation as they have the experience. You should also ask your surgeon any questions that you have about the operation; any additional costs, how long you will be hospitalised etc. These are good because not only will they give you a better knowledge of what to expect, they will also allow you to gauge how right the surgeon is for you. It is important to remember that the questions suggested above are neither comprehensive, nor are they necessarily the questions you will want to ask your surgeon; only you know the questions you want to ask to make sure that they are right for you.
