Invisalign Alternatives | Dental Treatment Guide

There are a number of alternative orthodontic products currently on the market. These range from conventional metal braces through to a wide range of products that are marketed in different ways. Some, like Invisalign, are admired for their invisibility and comfort, others for the speed at which they alter your teeth. Others again are aimed at patients with severe orthodontic problems, while others can simply be used as a ‘quick fix’ for a mild case.

If you’re confused by the range of products currently on the market, the most sensible approach is to arrange a full consultation with your dentist. He or she can then fully assess your teeth, identify how you want your teeth to look and then explore possible treatment options. You may prefer to wear an invisible brace (most people do). But it could be that you will get better results with a conventional brace. Your dentist will provide the expert opinion to help you decide.

The other difficulty for patients is that new products emerge quickly. The Invisalign system itself is currently diversifying and, as a modern dental product, it is constantly evolving to suit an ever changing market. So while Invisalign can be used to treat the majority of orthodontic requirements, there are also a number of adaptations that may suit patients with slightly different requirements.

Invisalign Express uses the same Invisalign technology and invisible aligners as the original Invisalign product but it is designed to correct mild orthodontic problems quickly. It is really only suited to minor issues such as crowding and spacing, which can usually be corrected in 5-6 months.
Invisalign Teen is a new version of the Invisalign system which has been given some slight modifications to better suit a teenage lifestyle. These modifications include indicators that show when the aligner needs to be changed, as well as replacement aligners in case any are lost or broken. At the same time, it uses the same Invisalign technology, so teenagers and parents can be confident knowing that their teeth will be able to grow healthily in the future.
