Benzocaine is most commonly used as an ointment or as a liquid. It has about seven and a half to about twenty percent of anaesthetic in it. It is used for reducing the pain that results from an injection and it works like lidocaine ointment. Moreover, this topical anaesthetic is available over-the-counter. It is used to relieve toothaches temporarily and alleviate the discomfort from braces, canker sores, dentures, and teething.
